WELLNESS WITH HORSES

Our students have been attending regular sessions with this new provision- Wellness with Horses.

They have been learning to care for the horses- grooming, mucking out, feeding and leading them... We are very excited for this new partnership!

Its great for LPW students to be in the outdoors, be around animals and learn new skills. This delivery of equine assisted learning and nature therapies helps reduce children and young people's anxieties and promotes happiness and health and wellbeing.

CAREERS WEEK 2023

Monday 6th March- Friday 10th March

Our careers week at LPW allowed our students to get insight into the wider world of work!

We had a range of people from all different sectors of the work place come in to chat to our students. This included:

  • Cabin Crew

  • Chef and catering

  • Advertisement

  • Mentoring

  • Fire and Catering

  • Legal Work

  • Construction

  • Youth Work

  • Finance

  • Water based work

Workshops were also put on during the week, with onsite training delivering talks with our learners to introduce them to careers in construction, including plumbing, carpentry and bricklaying.

This week helped our learners gather more information and to explore further career opportunities. It helps to support all in understanding, realising and fulfilling their career goals.

"It is the seeds that are planted in this type of week, which will grow and be reflected upon over the following hours, days or months that will change the direction of our students"- Mike Trey, Careers week 2023 organiser.

WORLD BOOK DAY!

02/02/2023

'15 men on the dead man's chest, yo-ho-ho, and a bottle of rum!'- Treasure Island, Robert Louis Stevenson

This World Book Day at LPW school was pirate themed! Our students got the opportunity to go on a range of fun trips!

Our learners toured the harbour by boat, learning about the industry...

They went on a cultural capital trip to Portishead...

And they went on a Treasure Island walking theatre tour of Bristol!

A creative, educational and fun way to end the week!

PEAR TREE FARM: Animal Sanctuary

For the past couple years, our students have been going to the Pear Tree Farm Animal Sanctuary, a small Somerset-based sanctuary that rescues, cares for and rehabilitates animals

It was amazing for the students to get outdoors and have fun whilst learning how to care for the farm animals. They were great days and we can't wait to visit again!🐑🐖🐐🐓

Lady of the House Cultural Exhibition at Lost Horizon

In March 2022, students took part in a series of events to support International Women’s Day!

  • Ten students attended the Lady of the Night event at Lost Horizons, a day designed to celebrate the role women have played in the dance music industry.

  • Students had the chance to try their hand at DJing and learnt programming techniques as well as attending talks on careers in the music industry and having the opportunity to meet famous female DJs.

  • This visit meant an opportunity for the students to reengage with the teachers, each other and educational life;

EDU- ACTION AT THE HIDEOUT ON TEYFANT ROAD

The students partnered up with Edu-Action at the Hideout on Teyfant road, getting involved in activities such as plumbing and bricking.

It was great for them to learn these new skills in a fun and open environment!

  • Through these activities, they could gain a recognized ASDAN qualification in a range of courses including construction.

  • Outdoor learning activities can be key in alleviating stress and anxiety, promoting mental and physical well-being.

  • Working in the outdoors saw out students being more attentive and focused.

A visit to Jamie’s Farm results in:

  • Fewer fixed term and permanent exclusions;

  • Reengagement with teachers, school and educational life;

  • Professional development opportunities for all visiting staff;

  • Memories that last a lifetime, and an opportunity to reform patterns of behaviour in school and beyond.

“I will take away so much confidence and passion and a new love for farm animals… I just want to thank you for making me smile more in a week than I have in a year.”
