Careers and work related learning

All learners receive IAG (information, advice and guidance) and are encouraged to undertake work experience (either long term or short term, depending on their interests). We collaborate with local companies and organisations that provide group work experience opportunities (such as animal care at The Park in Knowle West). We also work in partnership with local further education colleges and training providers. By building trusted relationships in advance, we help ensure that post-16 transitions are as smooth as possible. We arrange taster days and tours and host mentors who work with students throughout the year. This helps students feel confident that they have a range of sustainable progression options. From April onwards each year, LPW regularly uses a classroom at our local college to create an immersive experience of college life. This is important for our learners given that many of them need a multi-sensory approach to learning.

All students have tailored careers advice and meet with an IAG level 7 adviser who creates individual support plans to help them to achieve their outcomes and next steps. We also partner with the Southwest Careers Service to meet the Gatsby Benchmarks. We have a dedicated careers lead.
