SEND and inclusion
At LPW we recognise that every student is unique and may come to us with a range of diverse and specific needs. We are committed to welcoming and supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring that their care, progress, and wellbeing remain a priority. We are a needs led school and follow an affirmative model of disability. We do not need official diagnosis or an EHCP for us to ensure accessing school is personalised.
We work in partnership with students, teachers, parents and carers, as well as external professionals, to provide the best possible support. This may take place through our inclusive LPW classroom practice, or through additional specialised lessons/interventions and external provision where required.
Our teaching is rooted in best practice for students with SEND, informed by the most up-to-date educational research. The Education Endowment Foundation’s recommended Five-a-Day strategies are embedded across our lessons, with additional approaches tailored to individual needs through each student’s personalised Pen Portrait.
We ensure that all classroom and co-curricular activities encourage the participation of every pupil, including those with SEND. Our site is fully accessible with wheelchair access throughout, and lift access available within our main building.
Our dedicated Learning Support Team includes the SENDCo (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator), SENDCo assistant, a Specialist English Teacher, and a team of highly skilled Higher Level Teaching Assistants/TAs. The team also works closely with LPW’s Engagement Team to provide wraparound care and guidance for students.
