Humanities subject intent
The majority of our learners at LPW typically arrive here with significant low attendance at Key Stage 3. As a result, their exposure to learning about the world around them whilst at school has been limited. By teaching key aspects of KS3 History and Geography at LPW, learners have further opportunity to learn more about the world around them, to engage with interesting themes, play with knowledge, build on previous knowledge and develop skills of enquiry that are important in later life. It aims to inspire a curiosity to find out about the world in which they live, use information, ask questions, think critically, weigh evidence, make connections, and develop perspective and judgement.
These units also offer cross-curricular opportunities in terms of creative writing, literacy, oracy and numeracy.
