School council and pupil voice

At LPW, we believe a whole-school approach means listening to everyone in our community pupils, parents and carers, and staff. Every voice matters.

Children and young people have unique perspectives on what it’s like to be a pupil at LPW. Involving them in decision-making creates meaningful change, improves academic outcomes, and builds a strong sense of empowerment and inclusion.

Pupil voice means:

  • A whole-school commitment to listening to the views, wishes and experiences of all pupils.

  • Providing safe, meaningful opportunities for pupils to share their experiences, ideas and hopes.

  • Making sure pupils know their views are valued, listened to, and acted upon.

There is no single way to promote pupil voice, and every school is unique. At LPW, we use a variety of approaches to ensure all children and young people are heard:

  • School Council: A platform for pupils to influence decisions and shape school life.

  • Class and Tutor Meetings: Giving every pupil the chance to contribute in a safe, familiar setting.

  • Suggestion Boxes: Accessible spaces for pupils to share their thoughts anonymously, with ideas reviewed regularly.

We also make a special effort to include every pupil — not just the most confident or vocal. We consider language barriers, quieter voices, and those who may be disengaged or struggling to attend.

Pupil voice at LPW isn’t about ticking a box. It’s about embedding participation into every aspect of school life. This includes:

  • Curriculum and learning styles

  • Facilities and the school environment

  • Break times and after-school clubs

  • Uniform, welfare and wellbeing

  • Anti-bullying policies and behaviour systems

Importantly, consultation must lead to visible action. We share outcomes clearly so pupils know their voices make a real difference.

We also trust and value the voices of parents and carers. At LPW, we welcome their views and involve them in decision-making through forums and regular consultation. Working together helps us strengthen our whole-school approach.

Pupil voice is woven into LPW’s values and ethos. It’s part of our action planning, our daily practice and our vision for a school where:

  • Every pupil feels heard.

  • Every family feels involved.

  • Every staff member is part of building a culture of respect and collaboration.

At LPW, we don’t just listen — we act.
